“To the free-willed Miqo'te, other races’ way of life - their wont to flock together with their own kind, to overrun nature to build cities, to seek safety and stability in laws and alliances - must seem quite curious indeed.”

The individuals among the Dusk Rats are wild and free spirits through and through. Until recently largely comprised of miqo'te, they crave the freedom of the wilds instead of the oppressive laws and walls of the cities. While often seen as outlaws and hunted accordingly, this roving band of mostly hunters is far from solely packed with villains, and often their actions do not stray far from those praised adventurers of the realm. Indeed, while they will at times take what they covet by ways of brigandry and theft, they are just as likely to hand their loot to the needy along the way, accept contracts to eliminate local terrors, or even hunt cruel bandits they themselves deem in need of punishment. To an outsider, their decisions and actions may well seem arbitrary and self-righteous.

Tenets of the Twelve

Though the Dusk Rats strictly reject the laws of man, they do bend knee to the gods. Made to carve the sigil of each corresponding god into the inside of their personal mask, these symbols serve to remind them of the tenets they agreed to follow while they roam with the Rats. Though these tenets largely serve as guidance, they are also a tool to enforce some form of order and moral direction within this tight-knight band living on the fringes of society.

Cherish and strengthen your bonds with each other.

Like Oschon, we live the vagrant's life. Show hospitality to those in the same position and think twice about harming them.

Mete out punishment to the unjust.

Take from those who have aplenty, and pass on to those in need.

Act with foresight and wisdom. Consider that your actions may bring demise to those you hold dear, even if unintended.

Take vengeance on those who wrong you if you deem it necessary.

Take from the Matron's boons, but return what is due.

Remember that time is fleeting. Spend it wisely.

Practice sincerity among your brothers and sisters.

Don't fear nor scorn your fate.

Like the Builder's walls, provide comfort and safety to your own.

Never forsake your freedom.
